The body, believed to be that of a man aged between 25 and 35, was found inside a Maruti Alto car bearing registration number MH12 SF 5471. Preliminary information suggests that the deceased was a resident of Loni Kalbhor and had been missing from the jurisdiction of Kalepadal Police Station. Police suspect that he may have died one or two days ago, although the exact time of death is yet to be established.
According to local residents, a four-wheeler had been parked unattended on the road in front of Nehru Stadium for the past two to three days. On Wednesday, a strong foul smell began coming from the vehicle, raising suspicions among people in the area. A person from the Jain temple in Dadaji Wadi subsequently alerted the police control room.
Following the alert, police personnel rushed to the spot and inspected the vehicle. When they opened the car, they found the body of the young man on one of the seats in a swollen condition. The body had reportedly been lying inside the closed vehicle for the past couple of days, resulting in a strong smell.
Police officials said, "A body has been found inside an unidentified vehicle near Sarasbaug. The vehicle is a Maruti car bearing registration number MH12 SF 5471. The body is that of a male, estimated to be around 25 to 30 years old. Preliminary information suggests that he was a resident of Loni Kalbhor. Further investigation is underway."
The officials further stated that they received information in the morning after a person from the Jain temple in Dadaji Wadi contacted the control room, reporting a foul smell coming from the car. Police personnel subsequently reached the location and conducted a preliminary investigation.
The body is being shifted to Sassoon Hospital for further police procedures. Officials said the deceased's brother was expected to arrive to identify the body. The name of the deceased will be confirmed after the family member examines and identifies the body.
Police have not yet established the exact cause or circumstances of death. The possibility of foul play is being examined, particularly in view of the marks of assault reportedly found on the deceased's body. The post-mortem report is expected to clarify the cause of death.
Investigators are also trying to establish who brought the car to the spot and left it parked there. Khadak Police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the vehicle's movements and determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
With the body discovered inside a car parked in a busy public area, police are investigating all possible angles, including suspected murder, to establish the identity of the deceased and determine how he died.
